Ty's Take

Monday nights around the Grant County sheriff's office tend to be quiet, which makes it worth noting when they aren't. Between a hit-and-run that landed an 18-year-old in the system and whatever else kept the deputies moving, it looks like the start of summer brought a little more friction than usual to town. Same week the county commission seats changed hands and the school board made a tough call on a firing—which means somewhere around here, somebody didn't get the outcome they wanted. That's ordinary work in a place like Silver City, where the population's small enough that decisions sting a little harder, but it's also worth remembering that our institutions are still functioning the way they're supposed to: people get held accountable, votes get counted, boards do their duty. The stage is set for fire season and the season after that. Keep your head up.
