Ty's Take

Out here, we don't often get to see the machinery of justice work in our favor, but the decision to drop charges against that Arkansas man—a father who acted to protect his daughter—reminds us that sometimes the law catches up with what most people already understand in their bones. Whatever happened that night, a jury wasn't going to convict him, and the prosecutor knew it. Now he's won the Republican nomination for sheriff down there, which says something about what folks in that county think a lawman ought to be. We can debate whether vigilantism has any place in a civil society, sure, but we shouldn't pretend we don't understand the weight that sits on a man's shoulders when his child is in danger.
